The Long Beach Sailing Club hosts
Hekowi,
a CT 47 open ocean outfitted ketch. This vessel is optimized for
long passages in comfort, as well as being host to our advanced cruising sailing
classes. The CT 47 requires appropriate training or an onboard crew member
during operation, but she can be crewed to Catalina, and then the crew can ferry
home, leaving the passengers to enjoy the island alone until the return passage.
Hekowi
has three double berths, two single berths and two heads, both including
showers, and yes, she
is named for the Indian tribe in F-Troop that occasionally got lost.
Lean
Machine
is our 65 racing sloop. Designed and built by MacGregor in
Costa Mesa, the goal was to produce a yacht that could be
campaigned against million dollar custom vessels, be reasonably affordable,
maintainable, and have typical interior accomodations. The result is the
MacGregor 65. With a waterline of 62 feet plus, a semi fin keel with a
bulb at 9 feet, Lean machine can be handled by a minimal crew and can easily
exceed 10 knots on a typical day between Alamitos Bay and Catalina. The 65
requires a captain onboard during all sailing, and requires a second crew member
for spinnaker use. Lean Machine
is long and lean and lively and can be chartered for medium distance races with
appropriate training.
